The City of Edmonton requires that craft market vendors who don't already have an Edmonton business license obtain a Travelling or Temporary Sales license. The cost of an annual license is $225; a three day license is $51.

If you need to apply for a travelling/temporary business license, please download the application form here, complete it, and send it to the city (contact info is on the form).

Please do not send your applications to Team Make It.

NB: The travelling/temporary sales business license is not the same as the City of Edmonton's vendor license. You are not required to have a vendor license, as Make It obtains one for the entire show.

If you have any questions about the city's licensing requirements, please email 311@edmonton.ca.

Load-in and Set-up Procedures

Check in is from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Because we have a large number of Makies, we stagger the load in process so it’s smoother. You will be assigned a load-in time based on your booth number (check back closer to the show date for the load-in schedule). The designated times are for load-in only; you can take as long as you like to set up your booth, as long as you’re done by 8:00 PM. If you can’t come during your designated time slot, please let us know. There will be no set up time on Friday morning, so make sure you complete everything on Thursday.

Booths 101-317: 12:00-1:30
Booths 401-619:   1:30-3:00
Booths 701-914:   3:00-4:30
Booths 1001-1206:   4:30-6:00

You can find your booth number and the floor plan at the bottom of this page.

For the safety reasons children under the age of 15 are not permitted in the hall during set up or tear down. This includes babies in strollers or carriers. If you are travelling from out of town and have your kids with you, please make sure you arrange childcare in advance. You may use the exhibitor lounge for this purpose, but you must not leave your children in the lounge unattended; an adult must supervise your kids at all times.

When you arrive to set up on Thursday, March 23rd, enter the Northland grounds through the 73rd or 79th street entrance (see map below). Continue until you reach the parking kiosk, and let the booth attendant know that you've arrived for the Make It load-in; they will direct you to continue driving straight until you see Hall H. Park near the Hall H overhead door, and check in with Brigitte or Jenna (the check-in table will be inside, near the service entrance to Hall H). We'll give you directions to your booth and a rad Makie exhibitor badge, plus a couple of extra badges for staffers if you need them. Go back outside and unload your vehicle. Once all your goods are at your booth, please return to your vehicle and move it to the exhibitor parking lot across the street (see map), and then return to the Expo Centre to finish setting up your booth. The loading area is small, and we have a lot of Makies who need to get their goods into the building, so please don't leave your vehicle in the unloading area any longer than absolutely necessary.

We will have a number of dollies available to help you unload your vehicle, but if you have a dolly of your own we recommend you bring it to speed up the process.

Accessing the Venue

Please use the exhibitor entrance to access the venue before or after show hours. You will need to present your Makie button to the security guard in order to enter the venue; if you lose your button, please obtain a new one from Jenna or Brigitte. Please do not pressure the venue to admit you without your Makie credentials -their job is to keep unauthorized people (ie anyone without a button) out of the building in order to keep all of us (and everyone's products!) safe.

You may access the hall one hour before the show opens each day, and come in and out for one hour after the show closes. If you need to access the hall outside of those hours, please let us know so that we can make the proper arrangements with the security team.

Staff Access

You can pick up extra Makie badges for your staffers when you check in on Wednesday. Your staff can access the venue with their Makie badges through the exhibitor entrance one hour before and after the show each day, or through the regular show entrance during show hours.

Floor Plan

You can download a PDF of the floor plan here. Please do not post the exhibitor guide floor plan to social media; there is a prettier one available here.

N.B.: Although we try very hard not to make changes to the floor plan once it is released, it's sometimes necessary to make minor changes. Please double check your booth number a day or two before the show to ensure you've got the most up-to-date info.

Social Media

Earning Makie status is difficult! Go ahead and brag about it with this sassy little image featuring our new spring mascot, Foxie:

Here’s a handy list of social media info:

Hashtag (for Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram): #makeitedmonton #makeitshow

Twitter: @makeitshow (https://twitter.com/makeitshow)

Instagram: @makeitshow (http://instagram.com/makeitshow)

Pinterest: Make It Show (https://www.pinterest.com/makeitshow/)

Facebook: Make It! The Handmade Revolution (https://www.facebook.com/MakeItProductions). Make sure you invite ALL of your friends to the event too: https://www.facebook.com/events/1193817280702945/

Please don't create your own facebook event for the show, it causes confusion among attendees.

Social Media Parking Pass Contest

Exhibitor parking passes are available in advance from Northlands here until March 24, but before you buy one take a shot at winning one from us! Just share one (or more!) of these images on your Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter feeds, and then use this form submit the total number of likes/shares that your post received.

You may enter the total for ONE POST PER PLATFORM only -not the total number of shares or likes of multiple posts.

Your posts MUST BE PUBLIC in order to qualify. We don't check each entry, just the winning ones -but if we can't see your post to verify the number of likes/shares, we can't award you a pass.

The deadline to submit your entry is midnight on Friday, March 17th. Winners will be notified via email on or before March 20th.

Take your pick of any of these images:

Help Your People Find You

Please use this map for social media/email sharing:

Flyers

Flyers are available at the Alberta Craft Council (10186 106 St NW) for you to hand out to your friends, family, and customers; please also share the electronic one below on your social media feeds. Both versions are good for $1 off entry!

NEW THIS YEAR! As a special bonus and a thank you for all your hard work helping us promote, when you pick up your flyers you can also pick up six paper tickets to use for social media promotion or for your family and friends.

If you're unable to pick up flyers but have places to distribute them, please let us know and we will mail you some.

There's a ton of parking (nearly 6200 stalls, in fact!) available for your customers at the Expo Centre for $16/day. Drop off areas and accessible parking spots are available close to all main entrances.

Exhibitor parking is available in the West parking lot for the reduced rate of $14/day, with no charge for parking on load-in day, or you can purchase an exhibitor parking pass (purchase online here between February 10 and March 24) which is good for all three days of the show. Exhibitor parking passes provide exhibitors with quick access to the site through the Service Entrance located on 79th Street and Borden Park Road. Purchasing a parking pass allows for in-and-out privileges. Exhibitor passes are available for purchase online only, and are available until the first day of the show.

Trailer parking is available on site in the exhibitor parking area or as directed by the Parking Team.

During the event, organizers will be on-site to assist with directing the crowd and maintaining security. Please let them know if you notice any attendees or participants acting in ways that could be dangerous or damaging to equipment or the venue, or if you notice any safety hazards.

The Expo Centre is extremely secure, however Make It is not responsible for the security of items and equipment at your booth. We recommend taking electronic equipment and cash with you when you leave each night.

Expo Centre staff wear name tags identifying them as such, and our equipment supplier's personnel all wear staff t-shirts that identify them. A possible scam could be for someone to pretend to be part of the venue staff in order to gain access to the area behind exhibitor booths (or other exhibitor areas), where exhibitors often stash laptops, bags, and other personal items. Please don't allow anybody without the proper identification into the back area of your booth.

Whether you (or your staff) are entering the show during the exhibitor entrance before or after show hours or through the front entrance during show hours, you will need to present your Makie button to the security guard in order to enter the venue. If you lose your button, please obtain a new one from Jenna or Brigitte. Please do not pressure the venue to admit you without your Makie credentials -their job is to keep unauthorized people (ie anyone without a button) out of the building in order to keep all of us (and everyone's products!) safe.

SHIPPING

EXPO CENTRE SHIPPING ADDRESS:

Make It! The Handmade Revolution, November 23-26
Makie business name, booth #
Expo Centre Northlands, Hall H
7300 116 Ave NW
Edmonton, AB T5B 4X5

Unfortunately, the Expo Centre does not accommodate advance shipping. Please do not ship your goods directly to the venue in advance of the show; make sure your cartage company can provide storage in advance of the show, and deliver your goods the morning of November 22nd. Receivership and materials handling will be looked after by our equipment suppliers; your pallet/crate will be moved to your booth, and be ready for you to unpack when you arrive.

Your items must be shipped out after the show wraps on Sunday night. Materials handling and forklifting will be provided by Make It. If you are not using our official carrier, please confirm with your shipping company that they will be picking up your pallet on Sunday night, as the venue will not store it for you.

Make It's official carrier is Multi-Temp Freight Solutions. They offer temperature-controlled trailers, online shipment tracking, warehousing, and cargo insurance for high value shipments, among other options.

To ship with Multi-Temp Freight, please contact Jeremy Potter at jeremyp@multi-tempfreight.com or 604-888-8182, extension 102. For the fastest quote, send Jeremy an email with:

  • The address you're shipping from, and whether it's a commercial business, residence, or trade show.
  • Whether a power tailgate is required for the pick up (unless you are shipping from a commercial venue with a loading dock, it is).
  • Which Make It (Calgary, Edmonton, or Vancouver) you are shipping to.
  • Whether you need to ship out of the venue after the show, and if so, whether you are shipping back to the address of origin or to another show.
  • The dimensions (height x width x depth) and estimated weight of your pallet.

OTHER OPTIONS:

You are welcome to use any carrier you like to ship your goods to the show. If you opt to use a different carrier, please ensure that you let them know the following:

  • You are shipping for a trade show.
  • Delivery time must be before noon on November 22nd.
  • Pick up must be on Sunday night November 26th.
  • There is no dock available at the venue; a truck with a tailgate lift is required.

Our show contractor (GES) is also able to assist you with advance shipping, and will warehouse your goods and transport them to the show for you (PDF and online order link coming soon).

To ship items via GES, please label your pallets as follows:

Global Experience Specialists, Inc.
Make It! The Handmade Revolution
Exhibiting Company Name, Booth # ____________
7730 - 34th Street W
Edmonton, Alberta T6B 3J6
Canada

Some Makies prefer to ship their goods via Greyhound, and then rent a vehicle once they arrive in town and pick their items up themselves from Greyhound. It's less convenient than shipping directly to the show, but often more affordable.

PALLET STORAGE:

Once you have unpacked your pallet, you may store it in the area marked "pallet storage" on the floor plan in the exhibitor guide. Please write your name on your pallet so that everyone knows who it belongs to make sure it is still there for you on Sunday when you need it.
